Juan Pe√Īa’s Story

Job Title: UX Designer
Employer: Walmart

I was born in Mexico and moved to the United States when I was 17. I initially lived in California, but the high cost of living soon surpassed my earnings as a graphic designer. This led me to relocate to Arkansas.

Unfortunately, I was laid off from my graphic design position and entered a lengthy job search that lasted several months. During this time, I decided to transition into UX design. However, I lacked a clear learning path and struggled to find time to focus on this new career while still job hunting.

That’s when Apprenticely and Walmart provided a crucial opportunity. They offered an apprenticeship program that allowed me to learn about UX Design on the job over the course of a year, alongside 12 other people. We eventually graduated and secured jobs.

That was two years ago. Today, my connection with the other apprentices remains strong, and each of us has proven to be a force to be reckoned with within our teams. I am now leading a portfolio of projects and continually challenge myself to learn and grow as a UX Designer, transitioning into a leadership position.

Long story short, I wouldn’t be where I am today without Apprenticely’s apprenticeship programs. Thank you.
