Evolving Dreams

A woman taking stepping up the ladder to pursue her dram career.

The Director’s Chair

IT’S MAY AGAIN, and that means graduation day. So congratulations to all who’re taking that big step this month, from whatever level of schooling you’re receiving that diploma. That said, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you there’s always anxiety accompanying that much-anticipated certificate, and perhaps this year brings more anxiety than most. Because your next challenge is to test your dream job against the reality of the real-life job market.

This 2026 market presents more anxiety and frustration than normal. You can blame the economy, you can blame the government, you can blame A.I. But the fact is, many jobs have evolved, and that means the skills required have evolved…which in turn means you may need to evolve your dreams.

I would submit that the overall workforce demand is still strong, but the requirements are very much in flux. We see high demand in manufacturing, in healthcare, and in logistics. Maybe you’re graduating with a computer science degree but aren’t seeing many posted openings specifically for that. Well, guess what, many of the skills required for manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics are technical, and I would encourage you to open the aperture of your search. If it’s computer science you love, there are many ways, and many contexts, in which you can put that knowledge to good and fulfilling use. If we at Apprenticely can help, please go to our website and we’ll tackle your job search together.

In closing, I want to acknowledge another ritual of May—the sacred observances of Memorial Day. Once again, we honor and thank everyone in uniform, as well as their families, and especially remember those service members who paid the ultimate price. We do not forget.
